Peyronie’s disease in men with sexual dysfunction

Some men with erectile dysfunction also have Peyronie’s disease, although they may not be aware of it.
Peyronie’s disease (PD) is a condition that’s poorly understood but involves deformity of the penis, pain on erection, and erectile dysfunction (ED). A new study from a team at the University of Istanbul, Turkey, shows that some men with ED also have PD but are not aware of it.

A group of 448 men diagnosed with PD could be split into two groups. The first presented with ED problems only and were unaware of their penile deformity - which might have been contributing to their symptoms. The second group had more classic symptoms of PD.

The researchers also looked at accompanying medical conditions and learned that 40 per cent of those in the first group - who were unaware of having PD - also had diabetes. They suggest that when a man presents with ED and has diabetes as well, then PD should always be suspected.
