According to US researchers from University of Pennsylvania, it is probably best to wait until a toddler is at least 27 months old before starting potty training.
The researchers arrived at this conclusion after studying potty training in 400 children. The children were all enrolled into the study between the ages of 17 and 19 months, and their parents were telephoned regularly and asked whether they had started potty training and how it was going.
The researchers found that, the younger a child was when they started potty training, the younger they were when they were out of nappies during the day, but the longer training took. This was particularly true for children who were younger than 27 months before potty training started.
