Exercise is helpful for breast cancer survivors

A study shows that women who take exercise following breast cancer treatment are happier and healthier than those who just rest.
Treatment for breast cancer can be exhausting and may even impair heart and lung function. The last thing many women feel like is exercise, after this experience. But it may be worthwhile making the effort, according to researchers at the University of Alberta, Canada.

They assigned a group of breast cancer survivors to exercise, or no exercise. Those in the exercise group felt much happier than those who stayed inactive. The women also had better heart and lung functioning. While this study didn’t show a better survival rate for those who did the exercise, other research has indicated this may be the case. Further investigation is justified, but women who survive breast cancer can safely take exercise - under their doctor’s guidance - knowing it will improve their mental and physical health.
