Several rooms on the second floor of the Gladstone Hotel hosted performances featuring a Queen West theme.
After perusing the silent auction and in between bevies guests wandered between rooms to take in presentations.
One theatrical piece titled I Love this City poked fun at various tell-tale quirks of Queen West residents, while Mike Kiss and Ted Sutton of the comedy duo Deadpan Power Point did a mock-serious sendup about the area’s future.
In all, eight different performance pieces drew inspiration from the art on display.
Lanie Treen, a key organizer of Synthesis, says planning for the event started in November.
“It’s been interesting to see the new connections between artists of different disciplines,” she said. “Collaboration is where it is at.”
Rachel Unterman, a lifer of Queen West came out to support a performing friend.
“The art is a great commentary on Queen West and how it’s all come together over the years,” she said.” [Queen West] is where my heart is.”
Proceed from Synthesis will benefit a lecture symposium at this fall’s Queen West Art Crawl.
