    Holy rollers: Make Your Exit rocks the Church

    The power of Christ compelled Make Your Exit.

    Or, at least the power of a Christian venue, to be more accurate.  Though the music isn’t religious, the Toronto-based experimental rockers went to such a venue to record their sophomore EP Remind Me The Reason I Came — available at Soundscapes and Criminal Records. At the behest of producer Brent Bodrug (who has worked with such Canadian luminaries as Alanis Morissette and Jacksoul), the five members spent a 10-day stint at a century-old church in Trenton, Ont. — converted into a recording studio — to cut the record.

    Nuit Blanche escapes storm’s wrath

    Many artists with outdoor exhibits had to scramble to restructure their projects after Toronto was hit with a thunderstorm just before the launch of its annual all-night art party, Nuit Blanche.

    “There was a severe storm before 7 p.m. [ET] last night. It was really something, but fortunately the skies cleared,” Rita Davies, executive director of culture for the City of Toronto, told CBC.ca on Sunday.

    A cosmic gamble: Young Galaxy goes their own way

    Stephen Ramsay and Catherine McCandless believe that if you’re in it, you’re in it to win it.

    The couple and core behind Montreal dream-rock outfit Young Galaxy had to summon up more sand recording Invisible Republic (which they’ll showcase at the Drake Hotel Sept. 10), than they did when they cut their self-titled debut in 2007. Adding new permanent members Stephen Kamp and Max Henry, Young Galaxy charted new courses.
