(NewsFix) Penicillin was once considered the greatest discovery in the medical field, and it has continued to be a great discovery because of the number of life that it saves every day. Thanks to drugs like penicillin and streptomycin it has been possible to kill bacteria that are responsible for many serious illnesses. But with time bugs have started to adapt and evolve and there are many bacteria that are resistant to drugs that could kill them or suppress them previously.

According to a new report by the Centres for Disease Control, yearly 2 million people develop serious bacteria infections of which 23,000 die. Of these deaths, nearly 11,000 are caused by MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus. Experts hold overuse and misuse of antibiotics as the cause for their declining effectiveness. Health officials are worried that surgeons might be reluctant to perform life saving surgeries if antibiotics fail to protect their patients who are very vulnerable to infections.
