Diet High in Calcium Reduces Risk of Colon Cancer

Results of a study suggest that calcium may ward off colon cancer.
Calcium has long been thought of as a mineral that offers numerous health benefits, mainly strengthening our bones.
Researchers of a big study suggest that it may also help reduce colon cancer risk.

The study found that calcium reduced colon cancer in women more than men, a fact that researchers can not explain.
For their study researchers looked at more than 500,000 men and women who took part in the U.S. National Institutes of Health-AARP Diet and Health Study.

Results showed that women who supplemented with calcium and had an overall high calcium diet were less likely to be diagnosed with colon cancer.

Health experts insist that the best way to eat a diet high in calcium is through eating healthy foods, not supplementation.
