It might sound counter-intuitive, but men suffer the most when a relationship is ongoing its ups and downs.
Researchers at the Wake Forest University in the US reports that women have a harder time to cope with breakup, but men are the one who feels more stress and strain when the relationship hits the wall. On the contrary, men get more of a psychological boost and morale when a relationship is healthy and strong.

Women are more likely to convey their troubles and feelings to friends, however men tend to store their feelings, making them more susceptible to alcohol and other negative influence. The mental health of men is more affected by the damaging stress of relationship woes.

Another different find is that while young men are more impacted by the quality of the ongoing relationship, young women are more emotionally affected as to whether they are in the relationship or not.
