A study has found that for every few hours that we watch TV on a daily basis, we greatly increase our risk of developing diabetes, as well as early death. The study was led by Dr. Anders Grontved from the University of Southern Denmark and Dr. Frank Hu from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Researchers focused on data that cane from 8 different studies which included over 230,000 people in total.
The idea was to see what impact watching television had on the health of people in the U.S.

They focused on the amount of television time people had daily, and tried to tie it to a risk of early death as well as type 2 diabetes and other health issues.

What researchers found was that your risk of type 2 diabetes increases by 20% for every few hours you watch television each day. Your risk of non-fatal heart disease was also said to increase by 15%, and your risk of early death rose by 13%.

What this means is that watching television daily for long stretches in excess of two-hours is very dangerous to your health. This is further evidence, building upon what we already know, that being a couch potatoe can be potentially fatal to your long-term health.
The study has been published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
