According to an study, men who have high blood pressure and partake in binge drinking greatly increase their risk of death. The study was carried out by researchers from the Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, and consisted of a group of men who all had hypertension.
The idea was to see what type of impact binge drinking would have on those who suffered from high blood pressure.
The impact that they found was startling to say the least, especially for those who have high blood pressure of 168/100 or worse. Men who binge drink and have high blood pressure have been found to be 3 times more likely to die from a stroke or related heart incident.
This is compared directly to those who did not have high blood pressure. This increased risk was seen when men consumed 6 or more alcoholic beverages within a short window, such as a night. The rate increases with drinks as well, so if a man has 12 drinks in a night, his risk is 12 times higher. The study has been published in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association.
