A study has looked at the potential benefits of both a low carb diet as well as a low fat diet. The study has shown that both diets do work, but which is the better of the two?
The study was led by Dr. Gary Foster and a team of researchers from Temple University. The idea of the study was to see which of the two diets were better, if any, in regards to weight loss, potential health benefits, etc.
What researchers found was that both a low carb diet as well as a low fat diet work in that they can help people lose weight. The study revealed that on average, low carb diets and low fat diets resulted in 7% loss in body weight.
They were very similar in terms of the amount of weight loss that those who followed the diets experienced.
The major difference was that a low carb diet was found to result in an increase in levels of good cholesterol.
Patients on the low carb diet had a 23% increase in good cholesterol, vs. only a 12% increase in those on the low fat diet.
The study involved more than 300 people who followed a diet for two years.
The study has been published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
