A study has found that when you smile, it can make others smile as well, happiness is contagious.
Researchers from Harvard, as well as the University of Californai at San Diego carried out the study on 5,000 people and their 50,000 connections they had to various friends, family, etc. The data came from the Framingham Heart Study which originated back in 1984.
Researchers found that happiness is like a virus, in that it is highly contagious and spreads rapidly. If you are happy, you are going to make your close friend 25% more likely to be happy as well. That close friend then has a 10% higher chance of making his friend happy, and so on.
As for siblings and spouses, those connections made the other person around 10% more likely to be happy as well.
The study was published in the British Medical Journal.
