No Chocolate, Strawberry Milk For Students In Los Angeles Schools

The Los Angeles Unified School District has announced that they have banned cafeterias from serving chocolate and strawberry milk to students.

The school board for the Los Angeles Unified School District came down with the ruling this week, stating that as of July 1, 2011, there will be no more flavored milk served to students of these schools.
The Los Angeles Unified School District contains roughly 700,000 students and is the 2nd largest school district in the United States. The only district larger is the New York City Department of Education. Cafeteries in these schools serve roughly 500,000 meals each and every day.

The reason for thsi change is due to the fact that obesity continues to be a growing problem in U.S. schools, and there is a serious push to try and improve upon the food served to students.
By eliminating this drink, the school board has managed to get rid of a drink loaded with as much sugar as a good portion of candy, such as a bar of chocolate.

With over 25% of the U.S. population of children considered obese, this adds the Los Angeles Unified School District to other school districts across the U.S. banning foods and drinks of this nature in an attempt to reverse a growing health epidemic.
