With the Winter Games comes a little culture. I don’t have a lot of time to write a long post here, but I do have some vids and pics for your viewing pleasure!

I’ll fill in the blanks…

LunarFest

As you can read for the posted link, LunarFest is part of the Cultural Olympiad taking place at several locations in downtown Vancouver. I walked around this one on Granville Street.

Michael Lin

Just around the corner from that you will stumble upon the Vancouver Art Gallery, where you will see the first presentation of Taipei-based artist Michael Lin’s work in Canada.

As you will see from the video, he’s created a massive hand-painted mural covering the Vancouver Art Gallery’s northern façade. Lin is internationally renowned for his re-conceptualization of public spaces.

Robson Square/GE Plaza

And then coincidentally behind the Vancouver Art Gallery, one will find Robson Square where organizers have installed a public skating rink for anyone to come and enjoy.

English Bay Lights - Vectorial Elevation

After that if you’re patient enough to wait until the evening and can get yourself over to English Bay, you’ll be treated to a free night-long light show.

One of the most spectacular things to watch during the Games will be the Vectorial Elevation – an interactive light show above Vancouver.

Twenty robotic searchlights, visible from a distance of 15 kilometres, will light up the night’s sky above the Bay for the next three weeks. The cool thing about this is that anyone with access to the Internet can design and submit their own show that may end up as part of the display.

Lastly, this has nothing to do with the Cultural Olympiad, but this video is a must-show of one of the craziest decorated cars I’ve ever seen. And this is after seeing another crazy “car” only minutes before. (See photo gallery.)

Ridiculous!!!
