In the invitation-only concept space, nightclub kingpin Charles Khabouth of Ink Entertainment unveiled the design for the Bisha Hotel and Residence. Set to take over the Diesel Theatre, the Bisha was jointly commissioned by Lifetime development and Ink Entertainment. The building, co-designed by Khabouth and Munge Design, will be 40 storeys when it’s finished.
Interestingly, while attendees simply passed through the other entries in the concept space, Khabouth’s Bisha Hotel and Residence space had people lounging in it as if it were one of his clubs.
“Bisha was my childhood nickname,” said Khabouth. “It’s a natural progression for me because I’m getting older and more serene. I’ve wanted to do a hotel for a while.”
While a living space is a departure from the nightclubs that Khabouth is notorious for, the image for the building was in keeping with his sexy brooding nightclubs.
“If you look at the logo [for Bisha] the ‘s‘ has a halo on top and a devil tail,” he said. “The residence is dreamy white, but the bar and hotel are hard and sexy. I wouldn’t have been interested in this project if it didn’t have the hotel aspect to keep it fresh.”
But Charles was not the only one unveiling a chic new hotel for Toronto. On the other side of the show, Hotel Templar was showing off a mock up of their Monk Lounge. Set to open in the coming months, the bar was named after jazz great Thelonious Monk.
“We bought the land 10 years ago and actually did an image space for the 1999 IDS show,” said co-owner Del Terrelonge.
Indeed the lounge was making waves at IDS as it pounded out music and was populated by pretty young things all weekend.
Both are sure to be glamorous additions to the Toronto scene.
