As The One of a Kind Show comes to an end today, artists pack up their unique crafts, ready to move on to the next event.

Earrings designer Shirley Searle, one of the eight hundred artists featured at the yearly Toronto craft show at Exhibition Place has been following her creations all over the country for the past 10 years.

Out of all the shows Searle does in a year across Canada, the Toronto Christmas show always brings the biggest crowds every year, she says.

“We do a lot of shows, this is show number 6 or 7 for our fall tour,” said Searle. “We started in Ottawa, we went to Red Deer then to Prince George, then to Regina, then to Calgary and now here (Toronto), and then we finish in Port McMurray.”

Searle keeps good company with her husband Russ Searle by her side, the true salesman of her company Ear Curls, etc.

With three daughters all grown up, the Searle’s have been able to travel together these past years, living out of hotels in each place they stay.

“We stay in hotels that have kitchens, my husband is the chef, I did the cooking for the first 25 years and he’s taking over for the next 25,” Searle said with a smirk.

The couple who originates from B.C may miss home at times but are passionate about making their business succeed. They say life on the road is just a part of that process.

With a book titled “Make Money at Craft Shows” the Searle’s are committed to making their Ear Curls brand be seen across the country, no matter the distance.
