Bloor Street Entertains, CANFAR, fashion (5), food (2)Bloor Street Entertains was the place to see and be seen on the scene this week in Toronto.
For those unacquainted with the event, it pairs a top Bloor St. venue with one of the city’s best chefs, giving patrons a unique experience for a great cause.
Proceeds benefit CANFAR (Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research), which is the only Canadian national organization dedicated to finding a solution for the AIDS epidemic.
This 13th edition was co-chaired by Canadian fashion king Joe Mimran and his queen, wife Kimberly Newport-Mimran. They dined at the Gardiner Museum where Jamie Kennedy prepared a special meal for the evening.
Other fabulous pairings this year included menswear retailer Harry Rosen with Steven Ricci from the Windsor Arms Hotel, Tiffany & Co. with Keith Frogett of Scaramouche and the Liss Gallery with Tawfik Shehata of Vertical restaurant to name a few.
Along with the exclusive dining experiences guests were treated to luxe surprises at some of the venues. French spirit producer Remy Martin seized the opportunity to partner with Holt Renfrew and another fine French establishment, Cartier. At these two locales they offered diners their hundred-year-old Louis XIII cognac. Other spots offered different perks such as sterling silver cufflinks or a key fob at Tiffany & Co.
After dinner, patrons headed to the Gloria Hyacinth Chen Crystal Court at the ROM to dance the night away in the second part of the evening known as The Party. Separate tickets sold for this portion of the evening allowed people to enjoy the after-dinner cocktail and dancing for the event.
This year’s theme was vintage glamour, and partiers dressed to impress in everything from designer jeans and fur to white suits and fine jewelry. Nescafe set up a satellite café, but Dufflet stole the show with their dessert lounge that was fully loaded with scrumptious treats. The fundraising continued as tipsy guests bid on a range of glamorous items ranging from a cast iron cannon to a sterling silver Birks pen, while live performances could be heard by the likes of Jarvis Church.
Guest Sara Waxman was dressed to impress in a long silver sequin jacket but hadn’t lost sight of the cause amidst the glamour.
“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, the disease (AIDS) doesn’t care,” she said. “We may not have a cure but we need to continue to work toward one.”
