IMATS, International Make-Up Artists Trade Show, makeup (2)Beauty enthusiasts descended on Heritage Court on the Canadian National Exhibition grounds this past weekend to attend the International Make-Up Artists Trade Show (IMATS) put on by Makeup Artist Magazine.
Norma Hill-Patton, the artist who headed makeup for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, gave a special lecture.
IMATS Toronto attendees were also treated each day to a student make-up competition. Saturday’s focused on gothic beauty while Sunday’s centered around prosthetics as artists attempted to create X-Men style characters.
Participants from as far away as Japan competed fiercely at both IMATS Toronto student shows.
Elizabeth McLeod won the gothic beauty competition.
“I was terrified,” she said. “It was tempting to look at other people’s work, but I stuck to my guns and didn’t let anyone else’s vision interfere.”
Alongside the typical stress that participants face when competing, people in the prosthetics show faced additional challenges.
“They are given three hours to prep,” said Heather Wisner, a show organizer. “But we provide the prosthetic pieces at the last minute so they don’t know what they’re getting.”
Nonetheless, the results were stunning. See the gallery to view highlights of the IMATS Toronto show.
