Fashionable lovelies descended on the Burroughes Building penthouse last night to attend the inaugural Toronto Frocktail Party, a benefit which donates 100 per cent of its proceeds to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

This latest fundraiser on the Toronto charity party circuit was the brainchild of high school girlfriends.

Its mastermind, Jessica Oliver, watched her sister Vanessa grow up struggling with the disease.

“I’ve run marathons and done other events to raise awareness about juvenile diabetes and my friends have always supported me,” she said. “But I wanted to take it to another level and engage them.”

Guests sipped sexy cocktails and noshed on goodies from Oliver and Bonacini as they bid on fabulous gowns by top fashion talents that include international heavyweights Dior and DVF, along with local designers Andy Thê-Anh and Pink Tartan. Dresses were also donated by some of Toronto’s fashion media including MuchMusic’s Leah Miller and Tanya Kim of eTalk.

Min Teo was one of the ladies looking to score a new frock.

“It’s a cool concept,” she said. “A dress auction is a good idea in times like these.”

Ladies weren’t the only ones at the Toronto Frocktail party looking to land a glamorous gown. Good son Laurent Fort was also on the prowl.

“I love fashion. It comes with the gay gene,” he said.

His friend John Wilson chimed in.

“He has his eye on some of the dresses [for his mom].”

Canadian menswear darling and Burroughes Building resident Philip Sparks also made an appearance.

“It’s a great charity event,” he said mid-mingle.

Vanessa Oliver, the lady of the sold-out night, was in awe of its outcome.

“This being the first year, it’s blown us all away,” she said.
