On Friday, May 15, several hundred Tamil-Canadians assembled in front of Toronto’s U.S. consulate, continuing a non-stop week of protests. The group chanted appeals for U.S. president Barack Obama to intervene in the Sri Lankan civil war, which they call a genocide.

“President Obama save us!” one of the chant leaders shouted. “The Canadian government has failed us!”

Later, as their numbers swelled, the protesters marched to Yonge Street and Dundas Street, where they staged a traffic-blocking sit-in.
